Our history
It Begins
Stanley Switlik purchases the Canvas-Leather Specialty Company, laying the foundation for a century of technical textile manufacturing.
The Caterpillar Club
The Caterpillar Club is established to recognize airmen whose lives were saved by parachutes. Switlik would become part of the tradition, documenting survivors and awarding its own Caterpillar pins.
Taking Flight
Switlik becomes the nation’s largest parachute manufacturer, outfitting aviation pioneers including Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post and Admiral Richard Byrd.
A Leap Forward
Amelia Earhart makes the first public jump from Switlik’s 115-foot parachute training tower, built to train a new generation of airmen.
Answering The Call
Switlik scales parachute production for WWII and earns five Army-Navy “E” Awards for wartime production excellence.
Beyond Parachutes
Switlik expands into survival equipment, developing the Mark II life vest and inflatable life rafts for the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
